Crossing Borders, an exhibition currently ongoing at the Siddhartha Art Gallery, in Babarmahal, features a wide array of print arts by 20 artists from multi-disciplinary backgrounds. These prints have been culminated through a two-week workshop at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, in Pakistan, conducted by international printmakers Damon Kowarsky and Hyun Ju Kim along with other artists.
“Printmaking is an interesting concept. We are pleased to host local artists from Nepal, alongside international artists from Australia, Pakistan, and Korea, who have come together to exhibit their artworks at our gallery,” says Sangeeta Thapa, Director of the gallery.
“The featured prints form an almagation of different cultures and ideas, and make for a diverse but cohesive exhibition.” She adds, “One will easily note that the varying techniques and ideas used across the exhibited prints inspire cross-cultural learning and exchange. There is just so much to learn from one another.”
Speaking to the Post about the exhibition, Hyun Ju Kim, a South Korean artist says, “This exhibition is about ‘Crossing Borders’—Damon is an artist from Australia and
I am from South Korea, and we had paired up to conduct a workshop on Etching and Aquatint in Pakistan. And now, we are here in Nepal, exhibiting the works that resulted from the workshop.” He adds, “It was a huge responsibility for us to present works by 20 Pakistani artists and 20 Nepali artists besides our own.” She adds, “This is a rare collaboration that holds much significance for us.”
Aamir Habib, Abdul Jabbar Gull, Ayesha Naveed, Aziza Ahmed, Natasha Malik, Zara Asghar, Ang Tsherin Sherpa, Anita Bhattarai, Bidhata KC, Saurganga Dashandhari and several other artists have their work at display.
- The exhibit will run until June 18.
