Drawn in by Kyoto

PRAHRAN artist Damon Kowarsky will bring his interpretation of Japan's intricate architecture to life thanks to a $5500 state government grant.

Inspired by the riverside scenery of Kyoto during a trip in 2011, Kowarsky pencilled a series of drawings depicting waterside views.

He will transform the sketches into prints after the project was selected as one of 56 across the state to receive Arts Development funding.

Kowarsky will work with Melbourne-based artist Kyoko Imazu to produce the prints.

"We are developing the prints at Art Vault in Mildura later this year and I am talking to galleries in Melbourne about exhibiting it here," Kowarsky, an artist-in-residence at the Peter Crawley Centre for the Arts in Kew, says.

"We are also hoping we might be able to take it Japan, so it is quite exciting."
